What can I turn into flashcards?
A photo of your notes, a PDF, PowerPoint, Word, text or Markdown file, pasted text, a public YouTube video, a recording of the lecture, or a set exported from Quizlet or Anki. A deck can hold up to 50 pages of material free and 1,000 with Plus; longer material is cut at the limit and the rest can be added later.
How are the questions made?
The material is read as a whole, page layout and handwriting included, and planned into testable units in the order it teaches them. Each card gets a question, an answer, a short answer for typing, wrong options with the reason they are wrong, a blank, and a true-or-false pair, then a second pass checks them against the material and drops anything wrong or duplicated.
Does it work in my language?
Cards are written in the language of the material you upload. The app itself is in English for now.
What does spaced repetition mean here?
Every review is scheduled by FSRS, the algorithm behind modern Anki, at a 90% target recall. Your first answer to a card in a session sets its next date; a card counts as mastered once it would be remembered for three weeks. Set an exam date on a deck and it aims for 95% and paces the new cards so all of them are met before the day.
Can I study toward an exam date?
Yes. Set the exam date on a deck and until then reviews aim for 95% recall, no interval runs past the exam day, and new cards are paced so every card in the deck is met by the day before, at least five a session.
Which subjects does it work for?
Anything with material to learn from: biology, chemistry, medicine, law, history, economics, languages, calculus, art history, a certification at work. The deck icon reads the subject from the title. Fill-in-the-blank, true or false and typed recall come from the material itself, so a formula sheet and a chapter of history get different questions.
Is Memrize free?
Yes. The free plan keeps 3 decks at a time, makes up to 3 AI decks a day with 50 pages and 80 cards each, and has every study mode, the streak, quests and leagues. Plus lifts the limits and starts with a 7-day free trial on the yearly plan. Billing goes through Google Play or the App Store, and you cancel there.
Who is Memo?
Memo is the study coach in the app: the character at every question, the one who welcomes you back after a break, and the chat you can ask to explain a card or build a deck on a topic. Your own character is separate, an animal you pick and dress with coins you earn by studying.
How do I delete my account?
In the app: Profile, then Settings, then Delete Account at the bottom, and confirm. Your account and everything in it is permanently removed within 7 days. You can also email aimemrize@gmail.com and we will do it for you.
